Local photography notes

Glasgow is a rewarding city to photograph because it changes character so quickly. Grand sandstone streets, Victorian and Gothic architecture, old industrial buildings, railway arches and tenements sit alongside modern glass and steel. Around the Clyde there are bridges, reflections, open skies and traces of the city’s industrial past, while the centre gives you strong lines, repeating facades, lanes, murals and plenty of street life.
I tend to look for the smaller things as much as the landmarks: changing light on sandstone, people against architecture, reflections after rain, layers of old and new, signs, textures and the odd details you only notice when you slow down. Glasgow weather is part of the material rather than a reason to put the camera away. The walks are not about everyone taking the same photograph; they are a chance to explore, compare what caught our attention and see familiar places differently.
