IanR

I’ve been taking photographs for most of my life, starting with a Box Brownie and eventually finding my way through film, darkrooms, Pentax cameras and now mostly digital. I was involved with Edinburgh University PhotoSoc and Ayr Camera Club, but these days I’m less interested in photographic rules than in noticing what’s actually there. I like streets, people, old buildings, industrial edges, odd details and the way light changes familiar places. Glasgow is particularly good for that. There’s always something just beyond the obvious picture. My walks aren’t about everyone coming home with the same photograph. I’m more interested in slowing down, looking properly, asking questions and seeing what catches your attention. Bring whatever camera you enjoy using, including your phone. Curiosity matters rather more than equipment.

Why I take pictures

Photography gives me an excuse to pay attention. Sometimes it’s the grand view, but more often it’s a reflection, a face, a bit of fading paint or some awkward corner of the city that suddenly becomes interesting. The camera is really just a reason to stop and look.
